I might be a year late to blogging about this series, but this might be a good time to start; with the how lively the official twitter has become, I’ve gotten a little hopeful for more.
In our first scene, Haruka thinks about the start of high school life tomorrow, she has some worries, but decides to just sleep them off rather than to bother Yuu. On the other end, Yuu is wide awake past midnight (I sure know that feeling of not being able to sleep before a big day).
Haruka falls victim to Yuu’s insomnia with a tsundere-esque call, making a trivial question and immediately hanging up.
Small question here, do you save your contacts with their full name or just their given name? I personally don’t save the numbers of those I’m close to, but I feel using the full name is a bit too ‘stiff’.
On to their first day of school, we have a mopey Haruka and an easily enthralled Yuu. I really like the contrast between the two here, Yuu is deeply engrossed with the fact that they’re now high school students while Haruka is more, ‘school? another chance to be with Yuu-chan again!’.
Here we get a bit of backstory on how our two protagonists came to meet each other. Haruka used to a loner type, and it does show how her thoughts lie solely on Yuu, which is the only thing still familiar to her in this new setting. Note also her awkwardness while trying to play along below.
I feel Haruka is the type of person to overthink things, which is also kind of the reason for her jealous tendencies. Thus far, the narrative is focused on Haruka’s POV and we see she is a generally insecure and slightly awkward person. What I can see from Yuu, is that she’s able to read Haruka’s feelings well and genuinely cares for her. That short scene with Yuu mentally prepping for the kiss was great, it signaled to me her sincerity in wanting to answer to Haruka’s insecurities.
Haruka might buy it, but I for one don’t believe she forgot, I’ll bring this up again in future.
Subverting the ‘accidental pervert’ trope, Haruka ends up eating her own accusations, man I love this scene, and apparently so did Shizuku’s VA.
To summarize my feelings after watching this episode: Yuu is love, Yuu is life.
